Chittorgarh Fort has had a tumultuous past. The first was in 1303 when Ala-ud-din Khilji, the Sultan of Delhi, made an abduction attempt on Queen Padmini. It was Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat, that caused massive destruction over two centuries later, in 1533. The Mughal Emperor Akbar assaulted and conquered the fort four decades later, in 1568. The fort was finally surrendered to the Rajputs in 1616, under the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
